Zachary Blumner's Artwork to Appear on NYC Jumbo-Tron

We are pleased to announce that senior Zachary Blumner’s artwork was selected for display on a large screen jumbo-tron in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.  Zach's Abstract painting depicts "Musicians in Motion."  The use of repetitive curved lines and vibrant color enhance the feeling of joy and movement.

A slideshow of selected works will be shown in its entirety on Friday, March 2nd, and Saturday, March 3rd from 5-8pm on both days.  Zach’s piece is #415 in the sequence and will display at approximately 7:25 on both nights.  The address of the Big Screen Plaza is 851 Avenue of the Americas (between 29th and 30th St.), New York City.

 

Senior Zachary Blumner Awarded Honorable Mention

We're pleased to announce that Senior, Zachary Blumner, was awarded an Honorable Mention in the regional judging of the 2012 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for the Region-at-Large. Zachary’s art work deals with his investigation of twins and was made with “Billions of Dots.”  He was inspired by the style of the artist, Seurat.

NSHAHS shares victory in debate contest

The North Shore debate team did more than hold its own against fierce competition at the North Shore Debate Tournament on Monday.  Out of the 52 debaters competing,  Elias Horowitz emerged as the #1 speaker at the event; Leigh Goldstein placed third.  Leigh and Elias advanced to the final round where they shared the first place team award with a team from Heschel.  Ben Markowitz and Mac. Berman were semifinalists.  Overall, North Shore was the #1 school with an unsurpassed 14-2 preliminary round record.  The North Shore Debate team is currently preparing for its next tournament on December 18 at MTA.

Congratulations North Shore Poets!

On Tuesday November 29th, six NSHAHS Poets participated at the 2nd Annual High School Poetry Competition at Rambam Mesivta.  Rachelle David, Jonathan Schneck, Anna Hardcastle, Cayla Gold, Jordana Jampel, and Elias Strober-Horowitz engaged in a slam-style spoken word battle in which they performed original free verse poems on the theme of “Light,” and connected haikus on the theme of “Jewish Battles”.  A total of five schools competed for a panel of three published authors, vying for an award. Sophomore Anna Hardcastle achieved success, winning the “Best Free Verse” plaque, and Senior Elias Strober-Horowitz was honored with the“Overall Best Performance” plaque.  Freshman Rachelle David was also approached personally by one of the judges at the end of the slam; he let her know that she was in close contention for a prize as well.  Overall, NSHAHS had an amazing showing at the slam, being the only school to win more than one award.  Congratulations to Elias, Anna, and all the NSHAHS slam poets, who did an amazing job!

Daniel Goldsmith Named as Siemens Math:Science:Technology Competition Semi-Finalist

Daniel Goldsmith has been named as a semi-finalist in the prestigious Siemens Math:Science:Technology Competition. Daniel’s selection places him in the top 10% of Siemens’ entrants, and NSHAHS is one of only 3 Yeshivot with winners. Daniel’s project was: “A Novel Search for Topological Charge Fluctuations in the Quark Gluon Plasma.”  He conducted his research work at Stony Brook University, this past summer, under the mentorship of Dr. Roy A. Lacey.  Daniel provided a new, successful method of analyzing a novel property in a newly found state of matter called the Quark Gluon Plasma.
